The City of Newark is dedicated to equitable development and affordable housing, notably through its Department of Economic and Housing Development. The city’s powerful inclusionary zoning ordinance (IZO) requires developers to allocate 20% of their units for affordable housing in Newark. The goal is to create diverse communities and prioritize Newark residents. These efforts focus on balancing development with community benefits, ensuring residents have access to quality, integrated housing options, and that developers contribute positively to the city’s progress.
