In the premiere episode of Season 7, Everything’s Political with Junius Williams returns with a thought-provoking conversation examining voting rights, civic engagement, and the importance of understanding political power.

Host and civil rights activist Junius Williamswelcomes longtime movement elder Aljosie Aldrich Harding, a charter member of the National Council of Elders, to discuss the growing disconnect between younger generations and the history of the struggle for voting rights.

Junius reflects on his participation in the 1965 voting rights movement in Montgomery, Alabama, with the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC), as well as his experience serving as campaign manager for Kenneth A. Gibson, Newark’s first Black mayor.

Together, Junius and Aljosie challenge the idea that one vote cannot make a difference. Through personal stories, historical reflections, and honest conversations about today’s political climate, they explore how voting connects to the everyday issues that affect our communities.

They also examine why understanding history, community responsibility, and collective action is essential to helping the next generation recognize its political power.

About Our Guest

Aljosie Aldrich Harding is a longtime civil rights activist, movement elder, and charter member of the National Council of Elders. She is a movement elder in residence at Project South and an advisor to the Dorothy Cotton Institute. Her decades of experience in social justice and community organizing inform her perspective on the importance of history, civic responsibility, and political participation.
